Jan BonPhD student - Eng
BiographyJan Bon obtained his BEng (Hon) in Petroleum Engineering at the University of New South Wales and is currently studying for a PhD by research in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Adelaide. His research interests are in CO2 EOR with a focus on reservoir fluid laboratory analysis and subsequent analysis of the experimental work. He has worked with Petrolab as a Laboratory Technician and Field Engineer and his vacation employment's have been with Shell Rijswijk, working in the core shed and Esso Australia's Reservoir Technology group. PhD Research ProjectCO2 Miscible Flood Parameters Derived From Experimental and Simulated WorkSupervisor: Prof Hemanta Sarma Co-supervisor: Seung Ihl Kam Project support: Santos, Petrolab Scholarship support: APA Technical support: Santos, Petrolab Project DescriptionCorrelations for miscibility parameters in high temperature, volatile oil reservoirs flooded with CO 2 rich gases, are to be derived based on experimental and simulated work. This work is being done with the aim of deriving a set of correlations that could be used for oilfields within the Cooper Basin and worldwide for EOR projects with CO 2 -rich gases, particularly targeting high temperature and volatile oil reservoirs. Experimental work was done on a volatile oil from the Cooper Basin region in central Australia. A full PVT study, solubility swelling, viscosity and miscibility analysis was performed with this oil and two injection gases; pure CO 2 and a high CO 2 content synthetic gas. The experimental work was then simulated with the results of the experiment being used to fine-tune the simulation. Once this was achieved successfully, input parameters, such as injection gas composition, reservoir fluid composition and reservoir temperature were varied and new outputs were generated. Based on this and using other experimental results, correlations are to be derived for miscibility parameters for high temperature, volatile oil reservoirs flooded by CO 2 -rich gases. Publications
