Graduate Certificate in Petroleum Geology & Geophysics

Nominal Length

1 semester (full-time). Part time not available. This program has fixed starting and ending dates each year. In 2009, the program commenced on 2 February, and will finish on 26 June.

Full fee-paying program comprising coursework only (5 months).

Potential Applicants

Geoscientists with a first degree who wish to

• obtain or update skills and knowledge in petroleum geoscience;
• undertake a well-recognised program of intensive coursework which can be completed in a single semester;
• convert from another area of geoscience;

Prerequisite Qualifications

Applicants normally require an Australian B.Sc. degree (3 years) or recognized overseas equivalent, majoring in geology and/or geophysics. Credit average or better preferred.

Coursework

Students take the ASP Geoscience coursework curriculum in the first semester.

Intake dates

One intake only per year, in late January, to synchronise with the start of the Geoscience coursework curriculum.

Assessment

Coursework assessments are based on a combination of written and oral examinations and the marking of practical exercises. Results for individual topics are weighted according to the length of the course to arrive at an average mark.

Cost

This is a full fee-paying course for all students, both Australian and international.
