Bachelor of Science (Honours) (Petroleum Geology & Geophysics)Find and Unlock Oil and Gas Reserves
The B.Sc.(Honours) degree is a one-year full-time program for graduates who have completed a B.Sc. or equivalent in geoscience and are interested in using geology and/or geophysics to explore for and develop oil and gas fields. A B.Sc.(Honours) degree is the entry level qualification for a career in the Australian petroleum industry. The ASP is unique in Australia in offering an Honours program which is specifically designed to prepare graduates for such a career. Our students receive a thorough grounding in the principles of exploration and development geoscience, whilst being exposed to the practical aspects of the oil and gas industry gained by our staff through years of experience around the world. The first half of the program consists of course work covering the spectrum of disciplines involved in petroleum geoscience. The second half is dedicated to research work on an industry-sponsored project, which is written up in a thesis. The project starts with a six-week paid internship with the sponsor company. The School is proud of the excellent employment record of its graduates. The Honours program is widely recognised as providing the essential training for a career in the industry, as well as a thorough preparation for postgraduate study. The curriculum is periodically updated in consultation with the petroleum industry to maintain its relevance. |
