Why Study Petroleum at Adelaide?
The Australian School of Petroleum is a totally new School at the University of Adelaide. The School has set itself up to be at the forefront of petroleum engineering and management education worldwide. The successful merging of the School of Petroleum Engineering and Management with the National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics means that the curriculum reflects the modern, multi-disciplinary approach of the petroleum industry. The integration of geology and geophysics with petroleum engineering to provide a holistic approach to the discovery and recovery of hydrocarbons, plus the inclusion of introductory courses in petroleum-related economics and management will further enhance your opportunities to gain employment and advance your career.
Its curriculum addresses the profound new economic and technological changes sweeping the international oil and gas industry, and prepares graduates to meet the imposing challenges of the global petroleum economy. The University of Adelaide's Bachelor of Petroleum Engineering degree focuses on the specific needs of the petroleum industry and aims to produce graduates with industry-relevant knowledge and skills, immediately employable in the workforce.
Modern Facilities
The Australian School of Petroleum is accommodated in a new modern spacious building with well-appointed laboratory, computer and lecture facilities, and extensive postgraduate and research areas. A 150m deep test well has been drilled to provide students with unique hands-on experience. Visualisation simulation technology enables student engineers and geo-scientists to build, explore and interpret computer models of the structure and properties of hydrocarbon reservoirs and to plan development schemes to maximise their recovery.
Excellent Staff
The School's academic staff are highly-qualified professionals with experience in petroleum exploration and production, in management and extensive experience in professional education. Their research activities cover a diversity of engineering and management topics. Visiting academics are selected on the basis of their potential to add depth and variety to the curriculum. They bring with them fresh, increasingly global perspectives. They are highly capable teachers, qualified in all aspects of the petroleum industry and successful in local and international oil and gas companies. They are able to contribute special insights from their technical, business and management experience. This powerful combination of practical and academic experience ensures that students are exposed to a rich diversity of teaching styles and industry-relevant knowledge.
