Alumni

One of the strengths of any School is the relationship it has with its alumni, past staff, past industry contacts, board members etc etc etc.

The Australian School of Petroleum was formed in 2003 by the merger of the newly formed School of Petroleum Engineering and Management (SPEM) and the National Centre for Petroleum Geology and Geophysics (NCPGG). Even though the School is relatively new, there is quite a history from the NCPGG, which was formed in 1985, teaching its first classes in 1986. The NPCGG was located at the Thebarton precinct of the University, initially in a building and three transportables linked together, moving into a newer building the other side of Stirling Street in 1999. In 2002 the NCPGG moved into its current location, sharing the Santos Petroleum Engineering Building with SPEM. You will see a link to photos of the packing, unpacking and the highlight, which was the interesting decorations of the office of the then director, John Kaldi. No animals were harmed in the making of the video. No, I still don't know why sheep were selected as the centrepiece!

A selection of photos from over the years is shown below, these include field trips to locations within South Australia and Central Australia, graduating students, graduation celebrations, alumni functions, Fireworks Night, Christmas Eve breakfast... Makes you wonder how the students managed to finish really!

The first cohort of students of the Engineering undergraduate program graduated in 2005 and this was the first year of an ASP Graduation Dinner, in previous years the geoscientists had celebrated with the Geology Department within the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
