Australian School of Petroleum |

SponsorsThe School is tangible and substantial evidence of a unique initiative by The University of Adelaide and Santos Limited. The gift from Santos of $25 million over a 10-year period to set up the School in Adelaide represented the largest single corporate contribution to this University to that time and, it is believed, to any Australian university. It enabled the building, from the ground up, of a completely new School with a purpose-designed home; new staff recruited from academia and industry around the world to present training programs new in concept and content for Adelaide; and focused on the practical needs of the international oil and gas industry for comprehensively trained engineers and managers. The Commonwealth Government also provided funding, primarily to support the recruitment of world-class academic staff and the development of innovative curriculum materials. State Government support included access to valuable drilling records and sample materials to assist in research and teaching projects. Major petroleum companies have joined Santos in their support for the School. Its Board of Management and Advisory Committees have representatives from major petroleum companies who have provided practical support through funding for research projects. Schlumberger, a leading international oilfield services company, moved its Adelaide office to the building. The location of a commercial tenant in one of its buildings was another "first" on the University's North Terrace campus. An industry training room housing a state-of-the-art computing facility provided by Schlumberger and used for the analysis and modelling of oil and gas exploration and production projects has also been moved into the new building.
